Chance was directing when Thomas Rühmann (born 1955) became an actor. As a theatre amateur he took on a role at a Leipzig student stage. This was followed by three years of training at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Art. Already during his studies he played at the Berliner Ensemble. In 1982 Thomas Rühmann accepted an engagement at the Maxim Gorki Theatre, where he was on stage for twelve years. He made guest appearances at the Mecklenburg State Theatre in Schwerin and the Cottbus State Theatre, among others. He had his first role in front of the camera in 1982 in the television film "Martin Luther". Since 1995 Thomas Rühmann has worked freelance, mainly for television, where he has appeared in "Stubbe und das Kind", "Post Mortem", in "Polizeiruf 110", "Tatort", "Plötzlich Millionär" and in various series. Since 1998 he has played the role of Dr. Roland Heilmann in the successful MDR production "In aller Freundschaft". Thomas is co-operator of the 'Theater am Rand' Zollbrücke in Oderaue. For his theatre work, Thomas Rühmann received the Order of Merit of the State of Brandenburg as well as the Federal Cross of Merit. Thomas Rühmann is also on the road as a singer and guitarist with musical projects such as "Richtige Lieder" and "Sugar Man".
